Tree of Light
The focus of the Tree of Light performances will be an 80-foot high sculptured tree with saplings created by the community groups each telling their own story. The trees will be lit by LED light technology, powered by rowers and cyclists on specially adapted machines. Performances will be animated by music and dance.
Outdoor performances will take place in June and July 2012 along the River Thames in Reading, Henley, Oxford, Windsor, Slough and in London.
Part of the cultural Olympiad - a series of spectacular events. It's one of the most memorable arts projects ever to come to the Thames Valley - a community celebration of the life and importance of trees. The two-year project brings together 40 diverse community groups from around Oxford, Reading, Henley and Windsor, leading to large-scale celebrations involving over 1200 performers and will culminate in performances in Windsor, Oxford, Reading and a finale at Stonor Park.
