Sussex by the Sea
As the autumn leaves fall from the trees, Sussex by the Sea has a lot seasonal activities going on for all the family. Take a trip to one of our three vibrant towns: Arundel, Bognor Regis and Littlehampton, all surrounded by beautiful Sussex countryside.
Arundel & surrounding areas
From autumn through to winter, Arundel has plenty of things to entertain. Enjoy some tricks and treats over Halloween at the Arundel Wetland Centre and see the scary side of wildlife with their hair raising, lantern lit trip, around the nature reserve.
In the town centre you can hear ghostly tales of the towns past at the Arundel Ghost Experience, or take an audio tour through the town’s Georgian and Victorian streets and lanes.
A short trip from Arundel is the Amberley Working Museum where children and adults alike can take a ride on the Amberley Ghost train or a trip to the mad professor’s laboratory for more spooky themed fun.
The nearby downland village of Slindon attracts visitors from far and wide for the Pumpkin display set up by a local family that have been growing pumpkins, and squashes for more than 40 years. Running until Hallowe’en, children delight in seeing the the array of pumpkin varieties and take their time to choose one to take home.
In the run up to Christmas, take the whole family into Arundel for the annual ‘Arundel by Candlelight’ festive event; catch sight of Father Christmas or enjoy watching the nativity play in the historic town while mums and dads also get a chance to do a bit of Christmas shopping complete with mince pies and mulled wine.
If you want to stretch your legs a little further, explore the surrounding countryside on a crisp and clear morning. Wrap up in your winter woollies to glance the South Downs with a sprinkling of light frost on many of the signposted walks in the area.
Round off your walk with a home cooked family meal in one of our rural village pubs or restaurants.
